So I came up with the idea, seeing as I have a love for music of all sorts, why not make the title of my posts, titles of songs or wonderful lyrics. That way, by the end of the summer, I will have a soundtrack to my life (like that Kid Cudi song), or at least to my summer 2010. The title to this post is from that lovely Macy Gray song "Beauty in the World". I will not lie, I was never really a fan, but the song is just so summery and happy you cannot help but tap your foot when you hear it.
Stay curious,
My inspiration for this post came as a result from listening to that song and it got me thinking: "Where do I think there is beauty in the world?" But that question gave me nothing but a system overload. I haven't seen the entire world, let alone my own backyard, to the full extent. There is beauty everywhere, but I had to go with what I knew. So I remembered my trip to Greece in 2003, and I might be slightly biased by saying this, but it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my life. So much culture and the ocean is AMAZING. I was looking through some photos when I fell upon this little picture of one of the guards at Sindagma--they are called 'tsoliades' in Greek. I was looking at this picture and realized how beautiful the tsolia's outfit was, with the embroidered vest and the pleated skirt. Each skirt has four hundred pleats symbolizing the 400 years that Greeks were under Ottoman rule. Now how's that for workmanship?
In lieu of this reminiscing, I decided to create some outfits inspired by these Greek guards. Hope you like them.
Stay curious,
Emanuella
