Busy, busy, busy...

I've been very busy working and saving up for my upcoming vacation so I'll post some designs that I did a while back. These two designs were inspired by my trip to Paris and the AMAZING food that can be found in that city.

Ohh whatta night!!

The song "Whatta Night" by Ricky J. pretty much expresses the fun I have been having this past weekend. It's Grand Prix weekend in Montreal and there is music to be heard around every street corner in downtown Montreal. The city is vibrant and alive and, all in all, a complete riot. Tourists come from around the world, terraces are full and everyone is having funnnnn!! I was lucky enough to see Bedouin Soundclash and Beatrice Martin (alias Coeur de Pirate) perform and I must say they put on a great live show. Also went to a battle of the bands to support some friends which was a lot of fun. So no designs for today, just a drawing of one of my doodles that ended up turning into a dress.

Fly me to the moon...

Gotta love Frank Sinatra :) So today's post is for the birds. They are marvellous animals, with astonishing prints and colors, enough to make a pattern fanatic go insane. Fashion has been mimicking nature since the beginning of its appearance. Whether it be feathers or animal coats, mother nature knows how to create a print. Hope you enjoy today's designs.

Do you want to go to the seaside?

The title of this post is part of the song Seaside from The Kooks, great British band. So I am keeping with the summer feel for today and found inspiration in the beautiful underwater world that exists in the ocean. Starfish, seahorses, jellyfish and a bunch of other wonderful creatures. I was thinking about the colours and the shapes and the overall otherwordly-ness of the bottom of the ocean and I thought why not? I would have to say that exploring ocean creatures and using them in fashion has been done before (Arielle from the Little Mermaid, she practically invented the starfish bra), but I wanted to take a swing at it and see what I could come up with. Hope you guys like the designs.

There is beauty in the world

So I came up with the idea, seeing as I have a love for music of all sorts, why not make the title of my posts, titles of songs or wonderful lyrics. That way, by the end of the summer, I will have a soundtrack to my life (like that Kid Cudi song), or at least to my summer 2010. The title to this post is from that lovely Macy Gray song "Beauty in the World". I will not lie, I was never really a fan, but the song is just so summery and happy you cannot help but tap your foot when you hear it.

My inspiration for this post came as a result from listening to that song and it got me thinking: "Where do I think there is beauty in the world?" But that question gave me nothing but a system overload. I haven't seen the entire world, let alone my own backyard, to the full extent. There is beauty everywhere, but I had to go with what I knew. So I remembered my trip to Greece in 2003, and I might be slightly biased by saying this, but it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my life. So much culture and the ocean is AMAZING. I was looking through some photos when I fell upon this little picture of one of the guards at Sindagma--they are called 'tsoliades' in Greek. I was looking at this picture and realized how beautiful the tsolia's outfit was, with the embroidered vest and the pleated skirt. Each skirt has four hundred pleats symbolizing the 400 years that Greeks were under Ottoman rule. Now how's that for workmanship?

In lieu of this reminiscing, I decided to create some outfits inspired by these Greek guards. Hope you like them.

Summertime, and the livin' is easy...

I have always loved that song, I find it truly encompasses the feeling of summer. I was real busy the last couple of weeks because of exams and things related to school, but now the marks are in and I am officially going off to university in the fall!!! I am beyond happy, because this means I am now on summer vacation!!! Time to explore and enjoy life. I have to find a job first, I was thinking somewhere downtown so I could hopefully keep the job next fall. So work, sun, friends, and new experiences are what I have planned for this summer. I might be planning a trip to the Big Apple towards the end of July, so fingers crossed. Just wanted to post another one of my designs that is very summer-ish, and that is quite 'out there' when colours are concerned, at least for my taste, but hey I did say that summer is a time for trying out new things and I did just buy this awesome skirt at H&M with the craziest fuchsia, orange, pink and black arrangement of colours I have ever seen. So here's to trying something new.

P.S. I will try and scan some of my designs done on paper, because I find they are more detailed compared to my free handed creations on the computer using the paint program.
